Wow, now that was a fantastic event for everyone I would have to say. The rain held off and we had over 500 people attend throughout the day!
We definitely want to send a thank you to all the participating organizations and sponsors who made this all possible. This includes: F&M’s Bonchek, Schnader, and Ware Houses, F&M’s Facilities and Operations group under Marty McGrath, Jess and Sara at Chester County IU, Deb at Autism Spectrum Connections, Ace Rents, Big Bright Bounces, and the parents, students and families who came out. We’d also like to give a special thank you to Rachel Horvitz who spearheaded the plan and organized the entire event in her spring semester of her senior year at F&M, as well as to Liz Carotto from the Tommy Foundation who helped organize the autism groups. We had tons of great responses from everyone involved and looking forward to next year.
Congratulations to Sam Evans from F&M for being the number one fundraiser raising over $400 for herself and her team.
Other prizes are on their way out, we’re still waiting for a final tally from one of the teams.
Overall, the event paid for itself through the sponsorships, walk and help from all local organizations and groups. While we would have liked to make a profit to benefit our programs and families, we were happy that we were able to have this event for everyone involved and will continue to do so every year as long as we can afford to at least break even.
Here’s some videos of the news coverage for our events. Special thanks to Fox43 and CBS21 for their support:
We’re doing our best to follow-up with everyone involved with the Festival and Walk. If you had a burning question and it wasn’t answered, contact us again!
It’s getting closer to the time and we’re getting pretty jacked about all the different people scheduled to come out. Right now, we have 20 different autism groups coming, huge rides, plenty of games, food, and everything else finally on paper. We’re using every single outlet on the F&M Hartman Green for our event. Bubble machine? Got it covered. Moon Bounce? No problem. The Wrecking Ball that required 3 separate circuits? Done. Not only that, but we’ve got everyone’s location set. We know where the food is going to be. Where you pick up your t-shirts. Heck, we’ve gotten nearly everything on paper and we’re 3 weeks away.
Does that mean we don’t need more help? Of course not! We are still looking for volunteers to help with people’s kids and also to man the games and tables. We have confirmations from 3 of the sororities at F&M, but we are still looking for more people to help out. If you want to help, let us know! Talk to everyone you know as this event is going to be huge!
Two more of the F&M College Houses will appear on the Edge of Autism 5k Walk T-shirts! The Schnader House has made contributions to the autism cause every year now in some form for the past 3 years. Congratulations! Also, the Ware House contributed enough money this year to appear on the T-Shirts! Between the three of the four college houses that have donated, we’ve raised enough money to cover the rides for this year for the students, families, and children. As always, we at the Tommy Foundation are incredibly thankful to the students who work on the committees to make this happen and also the House Dons that treat the community outside of F&M so wonderfully. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone out there! Be sure to check for the house crests to see what the rides each of the houses sponsored!
In a move advocated by Liz Carotto and our autism groups, we now have on-line registration for the Festival for our parents. We’re doing this so that we can get an accurate count of families and children that may need special considerations for the 5k Walk or Festival. As a parent, all you have to do is go to http://www.edgeofautism.com/ and click on Parents Registration. A form will pop-up and you simply fill it out. We’re also putting a printed form together for families as well. That should be available early next week. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (717) 312 – 8111. Looking forward to seeing everyone shortly!
